Lethrinops sp. Red Cap Itungi
Lethrinops sp. Red Cap Itungi
The genus Lethrinops is a huge untapped resource from Lake Malawi. They are not exported as often as their Aulonocara cousins. Maintenance requirements are the same, but they come in a very different range of colors. Greens and purples predominate over the typical blues of Peacocks. In general, they are less territorial and a bit more shy.
This is the most sought after Lethrinops. Since it's found only near Itungi at the northernmost tip of the lake, collections are rare. This is a smaller Leth. and Konings says it could be re-classified as a Tramitichromis. A courting male is a sight to behold.
