Acclimation Process:
When you receive your fish, depending on the time of year, the shipping water may be 5 to 10 degrees warmer or colder than your aquarium water. So, stage one of acclimation is accomplished simply by floating the bags in your aquarium for 15-20 minutes. Stage two attempts to slowly match the chemistry and quality of the two waters. This is a dilution process. The best method is to transfer the fish with their water to a clean 2 to 5-gallon bucket. Then, using airline tubing, start a siphon from the aquarium to the bucket. When the volume has tripled its original amount, the fish can be safely netted out into their new home. If the fish show no signs of distress you may get away with dipping small amounts of aquarium water into the open bag until tripled in volume.
All our fish are shipped with an ammonia chelator. This traps any ammonia produced during shipping in a harmless state. pH changes during acclimation will not release the ammonia. So, do not rush the process.
